Facilities
Dear Guest, We hope that your time here will be full of blessings. The retreat centre is here for group retreats and for people wanting quiet time so as to deepen their meditation practice. Please feel free to join the community here for meditation. Details of services in the Church are on the retreat centre board. The centre is run by the meditation community and there is a resident guest master, who will help you if you have any queries. To help you find your way around the following information may be helpful:
Meditation Room
Meditation is held here at 8.00am, 11.30am and 7pm. You are very welcome to join us. The room is kept as a quiet room at all times of the day.
Church Services
Morning prayer (Laudes) is at 7.40am, vespers at 6.00pm (Saturday vespers is at 6.30pm and Sunday vespers is at 5pm). Masses are at 8 and 11 am during the week, 8am, 11am and 5.30pm on Saturday and 8.30am, 10am, noon and 6.30pm on Sundays. Unless the side door is open you have to walk around to the front door of the Church to get in.
Kitchen
Breakfast things are available (cereal, toast etc). For self-catering please feel free to use what is in the cupboards. If you need anything please write it on the provisions board. There are tea and coffee and herbal teas.
Library and Sitting Room
Please make yourself at home. Books are for loan only to the local community.
Grounds
The monastery garden is part of the monastery enclosure. Please feel free to walk anywhere else. For longer walks Trent Park is close by. There is an entrance to the park opposite Oakwood Station. The most scenic walk however is from the entrance just beyond Cockfosters Station (three stops on the 299 bus, or a fifteen minute walk).
Public Transport
The closest underground is Oakwood, on the Piccadilly line. It is ten minutes walk along Bramley road (turning right when you come out of Peace Close).
Shops
The closest shops are on Bramley Road on the way to Oakwood. There is a small Tesco at the petrol station just beyond Oakwood Station.
Spiritual Direction
Can be arranged, notice is needed for this. Teaching and guidance on Christian Meditation can be found with any of the meditation group leaders or the Guestmaster.
